The Holy Communion

The small church I am going to has around 25 members. Since the last 5 years, I have been appointed to be the Communion pastor. At every church service we have Communion.

We as a church believe that the Holy Communion is a very important part in our Christian life.

To be honest, in my opinion a Christian believer should have communion at least once a day.

Why do we celebrate Communion?

1Corinthians 11:23-26

‘For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.’

As it is written in this section of the Bible, we see that Jesus tells us, “do this in remembrance of Me.”

With every Communion we partake in, we do remember Jesus’ death on the cross. We do remember what He went through to save mankind. We see how deep His love for us was and still is today.

Jesus did this unimaginable sacrifice just to ensure that you and I will not end up in hell.

“Do this in remembrance of me”, that does sound more like a command! Jesus did not give us any other option! We as Christians are obliged to take Communion!

Luke 22:14-20

‘When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. ‘

Jesus gave His Blood for us that we are saved and forgiven, ready to be accepted in the Kingdom of God. Where Jesus will be King for eternity.

And that is why we keep His commandment to celebrate Communion, to show Him our love and to honour and glorify Him.

Communion Every Day

I try to have Communion every day. When I am having my breakfast, I remember Him and take my coffee and sandwich as a substitute of the bread and wine.

I pray and then take my Communion breakfast in Jesus’ name.

I encourage you to do the same. Make every meal a Communion meal.

In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
