Why did God choose Mary?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, today we reflect on the profound question: Why did God choose Mary to be the mother of Jesus, the Savior of the world? The answer lies in Mary’s faith, humility, and obedience to God’s will.
Mary was a young Jewish woman living in Nazareth when the angel Gabriel appeared to her with an incredible message from God. Although she was initially afraid and confused, Mary responded with unwavering faith, saying, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” In that moment, Mary willingly accepted God’s plan for her life, despite not fully understanding what it would entail.
God chose Mary because she had a humble heart that was open to His will. In her famous song of praise known as the Magnificat, Mary exclaims, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” She recognized that God had chosen her for a special purpose and she embraced it wholeheartedly.
Mary’s obedience to God’s call is a shining example for all of us. Like her, we are called to trust in God’s plan for our lives, even when it may seem difficult or unclear. As we look to Mary as a model of faith and obedience, let us strive to emulate her virtues in our own walk with Christ.
May we always be willing vessels for God’s work in this world, just as Mary was chosen to bear His Son. Let us remember that God looks not at outward appearances but at the heart. May we cultivate hearts like Mary’s — humble, faithful, and obedient — so that we too may be instruments of His love and grace.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
