In the book of Genesis, we read about a man named Noah who found favor in the eyes of God. In a time when the earth was filled with violence and wickedness, God chose Noah to build an ark and save mankind and animals from the great flood. But why did God choose Noah? What set him apart from the rest of humanity?
- Noah’s Faith: The Bible tells us that Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Despite living in a corrupt world, Noah remained steadfast in his faith and obedience to God. Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household.”
- Noah’s Obedience: When God instructed Noah to build the ark, he didn’t question or doubt God’s plan. Instead, he obeyed without hesitation. Genesis 6:22 states, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” His obedience was a testament to his trust in God’s wisdom and sovereignty.
- Noah’s Relationship with God: Noah had a close relationship with God. He listened to His voice and followed His guidance. In Genesis 6:9, it is written that “Noah walked with God.” This intimate relationship allowed Noah to hear and understand God’s will for his life.
- Noah’s Righteousness: Despite being surrounded by wickedness, Noah remained righteous in the eyes of God. His character reflected godly values such as love, compassion, honesty, and integrity. 2 Peter 2:5 describes him as a “preacher of righteousness.”
God chose Noah not because he was perfect but because he had faith in Him, obeyed His commands, maintained a close relationship with Him, and lived a righteous life amidst a sinful world. Just like Noah, we are called to have faith in God’s promises, obey His word, walk closely with Him daily, and live righteously according to His will.
As we reflect on the story of Noah and the ark, let us remember that God sees our hearts and rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). May we strive to emulate Noah’s faithfulness and obedience in our own lives so that we too may find favor in the eyes of our loving Father.
